5 Healthy Habits to get you in the Holiday Spirit!

This winter is, dare I say, unprecedented. Some of us are home from college for winter break, others are staying put and cozying up, but we all are having to get creative to celebrate the holidays and have fun this winter. While we usually can enjoy time with friends outside of our family or roommates whom we quarantine, in order to protect our own health and the health of those around us, that isn’t an option this year. But have no fear, because we got you covered with some winter activities to get you feeling festive and bright this season.

1. For the friends who are doing long distance… have a Secret Santa Gift Exchange!

With limited travel, it’s becoming more difficult to be surrounded by friends and family for the holidays. However, that can’t stop us from exchanging some sick stocking stuffers! Or for the Jews like me, nothing can hold us back from eight lit nights of Hanukah presents. So this holiday season, grab a group of friends or family, use a Secret Santa generator, and ship your presents under an alias name to your lucky recipient! Tie it all together with a Zoom reveal, where everyone can open their presents and guess who their Secret Santa was.

2. Add a Patio Heater to Your Wish List

Being home from college, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see my childhood best friends given that we weren’t comfortable gathering inside. But with this patio heater from Home Depot, we were able to comfortably chat on my deck, staying distanced and cozy. Add this heater to your holiday wish list, and the cold won’t have to stop you from connecting with loved ones safely.

3. Cookies make everything better

This one is a holiday must. Whether you’re living with family, friends, or flying solo, there’s nothing quite like jamming to “All I Want for Christmas is You” and baking your famous chocolate chip cookies or reindeer chow.   

4. Take a walk to your local coffee shop

If you live within walking distance of a coffee shop (Starbucks is my go-to) invite a friend to walk over with you and grab some hot cocoa or a warm drink! It’s an easy outdoor activity, a great way to get in your steps for the day, and the drink will keep you warm while on your expedition. Pro-tip: grab a straw for your drink so you can easily slip it under your mask, or wait to start sipping until you get home! Either way, holding your drink will be like an extra set of mittens and warm you right up.

5. It’s a Netflix party!

By adding the Netflix Party extension to your computer, you can watch your favorite Hallmark movies with friends while snuggled up in your own beds. Using the chat function of Netflix Party, you can spill all your thoughts on the movie with friends, which, as we all know, is the best part of watching a movie.
